Day Trip: Monterey Bay Aquarium

Last weekend, we took a drive over to Monterey for a day at the Monterey Bay Aquarium.  Monterey is only about 1.5 hours away from where we live, so it makes for the perfect day trip.  The weather was typical for Monterey:  overcast and misty.  Just perfect for a day inside the aquarium.  The aquarium was built on the site of a former sardine cannery on Cannery Row  (Steinbeck, anyone?)

Yummy Local Strawberries! On the way home, we stopped at a roadside stand called the “Thistle Hut” for some of these.

Artichokes! And some of these delicious “thistles”.

It was a great way to spend a summer’s day.

Have you taken an excellent day trip this summer?

  1. They have flamingos now too, right? I have not even seen the sea horses. I am like 10 minutes from there and have not been in ages! We love the Thistle hut!
